Cold War Warplane Mysteries Solved

I'm watching the History Channel's series, Secret Superpower Aircraft of the Cold War. So many mysteries solved!

Some items that puzzled me for decades:

Why did the U.S. have almost no fighter defense during the Cold War?
What happened to the Soviet Union's long-range bomber force?
Why did most U.K. and Canadian warplanes get cancelled abruptly?
Where did the Soviets get their inspirations for advanced aircraft designs?

Those born after 1970 just won't get it: the obsession of the U.S. population with Soviet technical superiority. I recommend this series very highly.
